"An Analysis of Non-invasive Low Level Laser Therapy for Inch-Loss”

A majority of the adult population suffers from those extra inches in the belly, thighs, buttock and other areas of the body. As we age, we tend to increase the size of our body for a number of factors. Recent studies show that even with the worldwide trend toward increased exercise and better nutrition, many of us are still plagued by this problem and have spent a lot of time, effort and money on fads and diets in an effort to help alleviate this condition.

In researching the literature, one researcher stands out. Dr. Julia Breur, PhD, LMFT, of Boca Raton, Florida has devoted a good part of her career counseling patients trying to overcome the emotional distress associated with this issue. Not only do those excess inches distract from our looks, the mental anguish of dealing with the problem greatly lowers our self-esteem and can contribute toward severe emotional issues such as stress and depression. Resolving these issues sometimes is as simple as leading the patient towards a healthier lifestyle utilizing the tools available to them.

Once such tool that has become recently available is low level laser therapy for inch loss reduction.

How Low Level Lasers works and are they safe

Clinical studies have proven that the Class 3B Low Level Laser Therapy devices in the 635-650nm range operating in continuous wave mode with powers of between 60 and 200mW stimulate the adipose cells to emulsify (liquefy) the fat contained in the cell. The liquefied fat moves from the cell through a pore shaped membrane within the cytomembrane to outside the cell where it enters the lymph system and is excreted from the body. To increase this process of moving the liquefied fat from the cell to the lymph system, it is advisable to stimulate the cells by vigorous exercise for 20 minutes or my manual means such as massage. Once the fat is moved from the cell, it turns smaller thus inches are reduced off the waist, hips and thighs as well as the other areas being treated. The fat cells are not injured by this method so once the requires inches are lost, the patient must follow a healthy lifestyle. The procedure is non-invasive and totally safe with no recovery time. Most patients see results following a couple of treatment sessions as their clothing will be looser because of the fat reduction. Almost all patients will see results following 4-6 treatments.

How does it differ from liposuction
Liposuction is a very invasive procedure that removes the fat from cells at a deeper level of the skin employing a hollow stainless-steel tube (called a cannula) with the help of a strong vacuum. Liposuction may be accomplished either with the utilization of anesthesia, or with IV sedation, or completely by local anesthesia. Recovery time is measured in days or weeks depending on the procedure. In distinction, non-invasive low level laser therapy for inch loss such as that available from a U.S. company, Health and Beauty, Inc., when applied to the outside of the body and held in place with retaining belts stimulate the adipose cells and emulsify and unleash fat. There is no use of physiological conditions, no pain whatsoever, no gels, creams, desensitizing agents, needles and no  recovery time. The patient can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment. Most programs require a scheduled number of visits, usually 6 to 10 with no more than 3 days between treatments. Again exercise or manual stimulation of the area is required after each treatment to help move the liquefied fat into the lymph system for excretion.

Is there any downtime

Throughout the treatment the patient feels no discomfort at all. You may feel a pleasant sensation of warmth during the treatment. As a caution, the client needs to be pretested for a condition called photosensitivity which indicates that they are allergic to certain bands of light. This condition is extremely rare and results in a rash-like reaction. The test is painless and takes only about 10 minutes.  You can resume all activities immediately following each treatment.

Are there any limitations to what the patient can do during the two-week treatment program

No. Throughout the two-week treatment program all normal activities may be continued, however, its best for the patient to abstain from fatty foods, alcohol and caffeine.  Patients should stay hydrated by drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day which helps excrete the liquefied fat from the body. Healthy eating and exercise (a minimum of half-hour a day) will help achieve the desired results.

What areas of the body am I able to use Low Level Laser Therapy for inch loss on

Noninvasive low level laser therapy for inch loss has proved effective in numerous double-blind test on the waist, hips, thighs and wherever localized fat deposits exist. Health and Beauty, Inc. is conducting further clinical trials under IRB supervision to study other areas where the procedure might be used.

Are there certain people that it may not be used on

Yes, is contraindicated if the patient is pregnant, breast feeding, if they have photosensitivity or known cancer in the area that is intended for treatment. Protective goggles must be worn by both the patients and the therapist administering the treatment.
