Laser Therapeutics FAQ's
Omega XP Laser System-Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the benefits of low-laser therapy?
A: Low-level laser therapy is used worldwide to treat a variety of conditions. The therapy works by increasing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and protein synthesis within cells, improving cell proliferation. The change in cell membrane permeability promotes calcium up-take and pain relief as a result of increased endorphin and serotonin levels. The therapy also strengthens the immune system response by increasing levels of lymphocyte activity and through a newly researched mechanism called photomodulation of blood.
Q: What is the Omega XP Laser System?
A: The Omega XP Laser System is a non-invasive, portable
therapeutic low-level laser designed to deliver pulsing laser
light energy to the target tissue. The laser recently was
awarded U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for use
in treating certain forms of musculoskeletal tissue pain, namely
shoulder tendonitis. Low-level laser therapy stimulates the cells so that the healing effect is biochemical and not thermal. The laser delivers light energy into the cell, which then converts to cellular energy. The laser produces wavelengths between 600nm and 950nm.

Q: What medical conditions can the Omega XP Laser treat?
A: The Omega Laser is cleared for pain associated with shoulder
tendonitis. It is also being studied under Institutional Review
Board supervision in clinical trials for smoke addiction, weight
loss and other conditions.

Q: How is the laser used?
A: Three parameters are important for clinicians to achieve the best possible therapeutic effects when using low level lasers. These include: selection of the correct beneficial wavelength; use of appropriate power levels; and consistent application of the necessary amount of energy measured in joules. Clinicians also need to know the power of the probes they use and have the probes regularly checked to ensure that they are operating at full power.

Q: How safe is the Omega XP Laser System?
A: The Omega XP Laser System is extremely safe. In fact, the FDA classifies low-level lasers such as the Omega XP Laser System as "non-significant risk" devices. Low-level lasers are biochemical and not thermal, which means they do not focus heat and therefore do not damage living tissue. The treatment causes patients no pain or discomfort.

Q: How long does it take for the laser to heal or improve various conditions?
A: The improvement of a condition depends on its severity. The Omega XP Laser promotes blood supply to damaged cells, which aids healing. With an acute
shoulder tendonitis injury, patients often see results within
days. Chronic conditions, which are more severe, take longer to heal.

Q: What clinical studies have been conducted on the Omega Laser?
A: A large body of research on the clinical effects of low-level
laser therapy exists. The Omega Laser Systems and all
manufacturing partners maintain extensive libraries of research
papers relating to all areas of clinical research and the
implication of the therapy for practicing clinicians.
Q: How much does the Omega Laser cost?
A: Please contact Julie Foshay for current pricing on our
systems at 978-335-5366 or j.foshay@softlasers.com.
